Feeding out & about

Breastfeeding is a skill and although a normal and natural activity, it doesn’t always happen naturally – it is an acquired art that may take a little time and practice for mother and baby to learn.

A mum has a right to feed her baby wherever she wishes, but feeding outside the home can cause some anxiety even if you have perfected the art at home. Practice is the key to discreetly feeding in public without feeling embarrassed or offending others.

Since the introduction of the Equality Act in Spring 2010 it is against the law to stop a woman breastfeeding her baby in places like coffee shops, buses and restaurants, or to ask her to leave.  For more information click here.
