Peer Support Teams

Breastfeeding Peer Supporters are local mums who have breastfed their own babies who wish to support other mums and have completed a national qualification with an organisation like La Leche League or the Baby Friendly Initiative.

Through their own experiences, they understand that there is often some anxiety associated with breastfeeding by new mums whether it is your first time or not. Peer support is a tremendous help in the early days when you and your baby are learning how to breastfeed. They can provide telephone support, home visits, information and publications as well as support groups where they welcome everyone along for a coffee and a chat especially pregnant mums and those with new babies who need support, encouragement and reassurance. New dads and grandparents are given a warm welcome too.
